Till recently, i was not aware of the important  role Selection Criteria plays during the application process
for jobs in Australian public sector.

What are Selection Criteria?
Selection criteria are the important elements or requirements of a role that employers consider when they’re recruiting for that position. Selection criteria describe the level of knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience required to perform a particular role well and are often listed in job advertisements and related documentation.
(Villiers, Ann D, 2001 (3rd edition), How to Address Selection Criteria, dm press, Canberra)

Apparently, completing the Selection criteria summery well is the most important first step while applying for a Public service position with in Australia.

Here is a good article summarizing the essentials for addressing Selection Criteria .
