පුජ්‍යපාද රාජගිරියේ අරියඤාණ තෙරුන් වහන්සේගේ ධර්ම දේශනා

කලින් දවසක පොරොන්දු වූ ලෙස පුජ්‍යපාද   රාජගිරියේ අරියඤාණ  තෙරුන් වහන්සේගේ ධර්ම දේශනා රැසක් අද ඔබ වෙත ගෙන එනවා. මේවා බොහොමයක් මා හට සංයුක්ත තැටියකින් ලැබුණු ඒවා. ඒ කාර්යයට දායක වූ සොයුරු සොයුරියන්ට බොහෝ පිං.

මහ රහතුන් වැඩි මඟ ඔස්සේ නමින් දිවයින පුවත්පත ඔස්සේ ඉන්ද්‍රජිත් සුබසිංහ   මහතා සංස්කරණය කර ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලිපිපෙළ ලියුවා යයි සැලකෙන මේ හිමියන් ගේ ගිහි කාලය  සහ පැවිදි ජීවිතය ගැන වැඩි තොරතුරක් දැනගැනීමට නැහැ. උන්වහන්සේ ට වයස අවුරුදු 24 දී පමණ සිට පැවිදි වීමට  කැමැත්තෙන් පසු වූ බවකුත් අවුරුදු 44 දී පමණ කතරගම දී මාසයක් දස සිල් ලබා සිට  පැවිදි දිවියට ඇතුල් වූ  බවත් සඳහන්.

පැවිදි වී මාස  දෙක  හමාරකින්  පමණ පසු ගුරු හිමියන්ගෙන් වෙන්වී යන උන්වහන්සේ ඉන්පසු භාවනාව වැඩිම සඳහා විවිධ වනාන්තරවල සහ ආරණ්‍ය වල කල් ගත කල බව පැවසෙනවා.

උන්වහන්සේ රහතන් වහන්සේ නමක් යයි උපකල්පනය කර , උන්වහන්සේ දේශනා කරන සියල්ල සුපිරිසිදු සත්‍යය යයි මුඪ ශ්‍රද්ධාවෙන් පිලි නොගෙන , උන්වහන්සේ දේශනාකරන දෙය ශ්‍රවනය කර,  සතියෙන් යුතුව ධර්මය/ විනය හා සසඳා බලා තම බුද්ධියට ගෝචර වෙන යමක් ඇත්නම් , හංසයා දියෙන් කිර වෙන්කර ගන්නා සේ එය උකහා ගෙන තම භව ගමනට  යහපතක් කර ගැනීමට   ධර්ම කාමීහු සමත් වෙත්වා.

Was working on this for some time and finally… It’s with great pleasure I'm presenting this large collection of Buddhist Chants and devotional Music from all around the world.... Yes, Yes I’m basically jumping up and down with joy. :)  

This collection includes Parittas and devotional chants from various Buddhist traditions including Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana and Zen.

I’m confident enough to say that this is by far the largest, most diverse, well-arranged, freely accessible and easily downloadable collection of Buddhist parittha and chanting collection in the whole world. Dont believe me ??  Just have a look around and come back...

Since my very first dharma upload in March 30, 2011, more than 25000 people have downloaded various dharma talks I have put in to the archieve.org.  That’s about 1300 downloads per month. I have never imagined that these will become so popular. Isn’t that wonderful? 

As Ms Anatta has mentioned more than once, this is more like digging a water well for public use. Yes digging is hard and back breaking... but once dug, you don’t have to do anything else. Just cross your hands, put your legs up and watch how people take water from there and be happy. Never ending fountain of merits just flows out  from there for you…

Regarding ownership.... I must say that no copyright breach was intended in any form. If you believe any of the items in the list are not meant to be in public domain please let me know. I will remove them immediately.

දැන් ඉතින් හැම තැනම , හැම චැනල් එකේම බණ යනවනේ. මේවා මොකටද කියල හිතෙයි. නමුත් බණ කියන පැයක පමණ කුඩා කාලයේදී ඒ හිමිවරුන් කුඩා ධර්ම විස්තරයක් අරගෙන ඒක පැහැදිලි කරලා දෙන එක තමා කෙරෙන්නේ. ඒවා අහල ධර්මය ගැන පැහැදිලි පුළුල් අවබෝධයක් ගන්න බැහැ.  මුළුමනින්ම අහන්නේ නැතුව කැලි කැලි අහල වැරදි කොනින් අල්ලගෙන වැරදි විදියට තේරුම් අරන් ඉන්න අයත් බොහොමයි. ඇහුවම කියන්නේ අර හාමුදුරුවෝ මෙහෙම කියුව , අරහෙම කියුව කියල. ඒක හාමුදුරුවන්ගේ වරද නෙවෙයි. කුඩා කාලයකින් ගැඹුරු ධර්ම කොටසක් විචිකිච්චා ඇති නොවන පරිදි   විස්තර කිරීමට ඇති අපහසුතාවය නිසා වෙන එකක්. ඒක හින්දයි තමයි මේ වගේ පොතකින් දෘශ්‍යාබාධිත කට්ටියට පිහිටක් ලැබෙන්නේ.

මේක කරන්න ලොකු කට්ටක් කෑවා. සද්ද බද්ද නැති සවුන්ඩ් ස්ටුඩියෝ අපිට කොහෙන්ද.... රෙකොර්ඩ් කරන්න ගියහම තමයි තේරුම් ගියේ අප අවට පරිසරයේ කෙතරම් නම් ශබ්ද දුෂණයක් තියෙනවද කියල. වාහන වල සයිලන්සර් වලට ගැජට් කැලි හයිකරගෙන බූම් බූම් ගාගෙන යන ඇත්තො එක්ක කොහෙන්ද කනට නිවනක්!. සද්ද බද්ද අඩු තැනක් සොයාගන්න ගත්ත දැඩි උත්සහයකින් පස්සේ අන්තිමේදී ගිහිල්ල නතර උනේ  මෙල්බෙර්න් වලින් කිලෝමීටර් 80 ක්  විතර ගියහම වොබර්ටන් පන්සල තියෙන අලංකාර කඳු  ප්‍රදේශයක තිබ්බ කැලෑවක. දොලපාරක්  අයිනේ වාහනේ නවත්තගෙන  තමයි ගොඩක් කොටස් කියෙව්වේ. පහත ඇති එතන.

මාසයක් විතර...  ලැබෙන හැම විවේක කාලයම  යෙදවුනේ මේකට. නිකරුනේ පුච්චා නොදමා , සම්ප්‍රප්ප්‍රලාප  වලින් කල් ගත නොකොට  ඒ කාලය මෙවන් දෙයකට යෙදවීමට ලැබීම සතුටක්.  වැඩේ හමාරවී අන්තර්ජාලයටත් නිකුත්කර... සිදුකල කාර්යය දෙස නැවත හැරි බැලීමෙන් දැන් ලැබෙන නිරාමිස සුවය ප්‍රමාණ කල නොහැකියි.

වැඩි විස්තර ඕනේ නැහැ. කලින් වගේම කියන්න ඕනේ. මේකේ තියෙන ඔක්කොම අඩුපාඩු , උච්චාරණ වරදවල් , පසුබිම් ඝෝෂා මගේ වරදින් වෙච්චි දෙයක් මිස පොතේ වරදක් නෙවෙයි. දෝෂ සහිත තැන් , වැඩිදියුණු විය යුතු තැන් පෙන්වා දුන්නොත් බොහෝ පින්.

මෙහි පුණ්‍ය අනුමෝදනාව මටත් අනුමෝදන් වූ  සැමටත් එක ලෙසින්ම වේවා. සසර සැරිසරනා  තුරු  අඩු පිනැතිව අඳ , ගොළු,  බිහිරි, කොරව ,පිළුව අඩු පාඩු ඇතිව උපනත් කිසිකලක සත්ධර්ම සේවනයෙන් නම් දිවියට අඩුවක් නොවේවා !

සැමට  තෙරුවන් සරණයි.

Venerable Ajahn Kalyano was born in London in 1962 as Daniel Jones. His interest in Buddhism awakened while still a student and after completing his university degree at Bristol University, he travelled to Thailand to pursue his dream. In 1985 he received ordination in the forest tradition of Ajahn Chah.

Ajahn Kalyano has trained for many years under Venerable Ajahn Anan, one of several disciples of Ajahn Chah who have become highly regarded as meditation masters in their own right. In 2000, Ajahn Kalyano was invited to establish the Ajahn Chah's forest lineage in Australia. He is now the abbot of Bodhivana Monastery in East Waburton, Victoria, Australia.

Poetic Preaching (අට විසි බුද්ධ වන්දනා) by Ven. Manakandure Pannasara thero

Manakandura is a beautiful village in Yakkalamulla Pradeshiya Sabha in Galle district.Ven. Manakandure Pannasara thero  was ordained on the 1st of February 1992 at Yakkalamulla Udumalagala Gangarama Purana Viharaya.  After receiving primary training appropriate to lead a life of a true disciple of the Buddha at Sri Adichchawansa Pirivena in Manakandura, he continued training at Nugegoda Subhadrarama Maha Pirivena. 

The life of Ven. Manakandure Pannasara thero changed after arriving at Pamankada Gangarama Viharaya which is connected to Udumalagala Gangarama Viharaya. Most Reverend Meegoda Pannaloka thero who is known nationally and internationally for the immense service rendered to the sasana, supported and guided Manakandure Pannasara thero in his poetic preaching. After Ven. Meegoda Pannaloka thero became a victim to the tidal wave in 2004, Manakandure Pannasara thero became the chief incumbent of Pamankada Gangarama Viharaya. 

Ven. Manakandure Pannasara thero is widely known for the great service he rendered to mould the society through poetic preaching. Ven. Manakandure Pannasara thero is grateful to Sangeeth Record Bar in Petta, Kalabhooshana Meegoda Mudiyanse, the Chief Incumbent of Paliyagoda Navaloka Viharaya Ven. Abhidhamma Lessons by Hon A.D.M Buddhadasa (MP3 Download)

It is with great pleasure I’m presenting this compilation of Abhidhamma teaching series by late honourable Mr. A.D.M.Buddhadasa. This compilation is a great way to learn the deepest aspect of dharma and mind. I hope many will benefit from this.  But wait... this series of talks can be found in many places in the Internet. Why did I copy and publish it again?

Reason is pretty simple. Every place I have visited, users are required to download each file individually by right clicking. That is almost 150 files. What a pain? If you are publishing something sweet and valuable as this for the benefit of dharma seekers, why make their life hard and painful by making them download each file? These days everyone carries’ a MP3 player around and it will benefit all if we provide a method for them to download the whole compilation in one file instead of making them waste their time. 

Secondly files offered by sites such as http://www.sobhana.net/   do not contain any information with in their file names to identify one file from the other (Ex:  bu001.wma, bu005.wma, bu010.wma ...) what on earth is that??? How hard it its to put the titile of the file in its name so that people know what they are listening to.And that also in WMA format instead of MP3 format? How many MP3 players can play WMA formatted audio files???  Hardly any I guess. Isn’t that like giving coconut husks to dogs? Completely  useless.

Mr. A.D.M.Buddhadasa, who passed away in his late sixties was one of the most proficient Abhidhamma teachers  in Sri Lanka. He taught Pali and Abhidhamma to many people including members of Sangha . According to D.M Hettiarachchi , Mr. A.D.M. Buddhadasa was a master of Abhidhamma and a preacher of Dharma who diverted his mind towards the task of teaching dharma not out of desire for any worldly gains, but purely with spiritual and detached intentions. This accomplished preacher of Dharma was recognized by the Buddhist monkhood and laity as a valuable lay preacher working of respect, who lived without degrading the teaching of Dharma into an unpine mode of livelihood. He won the love and respect of people, especially because he was clearly an embodiment of the Buddhist way of life. His own life blended harmoniously with the righteous path of practice.

Mr. Buddhadasa was gifted by nature with a deep yet mellifluous voice which is an asset to a preacher. So was he well versed in Dharma and allied literature as well as in diverse social science activities. Owing, these abilities he was able to conduct his lectures free from defects with completeness and lucidity.

Dedduwa Jayathungage Don Bastian family of the Bajjima Village in Tikkannagoda  in the deep south of Sri Lanka was blessed with a child on 11th December 1901. Named as Don Dias Jayathunga , the devout parents offered this young child on his seventh birthday to the service of sasana under the tutelage of Ven Dedduwe Wimalajothi of Aliyatholla Temple, who was related to the family in his lay life.

Young Jayathunga was ordained in December 1917 with the given name of Ven Matara Gnanarama under the patronage of Ven Matale Aggadhammalankara Thero. Young samanera Gnanarama was bent on perfecting his knowledge in dhamma pursued the dhamma education with utmost zeal. He received higher ordination on 10th July 1922 under Ven Sastrawelliye Upasena Nayaka Thero.

Bent on experiencing wisdom Venerable thero gave up almost all mundane comforts for the sake of the final goal. Some nights he spent without a wink of sleep absorbed in the study of Suttas . Having mastered all the aspects of Tipitaka, Logics, Chandolankara, Other ontemporary philosophies this extra ordinary sage pursued on the path with diligent practice.

During the 1951 Most Venerable Kadawedduwe Jinalankara Maha Swaminwahnse started a programme of activities for upholding the diminishing status of Sasana in Sri Lanka, and invited Ven Gnanarama to head the programme of Sri Kalyani Yogasrama Sansthawa. During the auspices year of 2500 Buddha Jayanthi several Burmese meditation masters arrived in Sri Lanka. Ven Matara Gnanarama thero joined the retreats conducted by these excellent teachers at Danawkande Sri Mangala Yogasramaya, and advanced rapidly on the path of insight meditation. Having observed the extra ordinary talent and zeal of Venerable Gnanarama, the Burmese masters taught him every aspect of practice to be learned by a Kammattanacari.

During this time another rare opportunity opened up for the advancement of sasana in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist philanthropist Asoka Weerarathna who selected a land and developed the forest hermitage at Meethirigala was searching for a teacher to head this meditation center for Bhikkus. Mr Weerarathna was able to persuade Venerable Gnanarama to take up this position. At this Nissarana Wanaya center countless Bhikkus and lay devotees both local and foreign received instructions for their advancement on the path and many reaped benefit. Some of these instructions were recorded on tape and were made available in printed form as well. The recorded talks can be downloaded from internet. Several books written based on the talks have been translated to western languages and have helped hundreds of seekers in the west.

Venerable Nyanarama had such a personality that those who met him for the first time too were attracted to him as with parental respect. He was never interested in worldly gains and high positions and spent almost every minuite not spent on teaching, on meditation. Venerable thero expected all students in Nissarana wanaya to follow his example and deligently reap the results of such practice.

Having lit the lamp of practice in the then darkened Sangha sphere, he generated such an interest among the bhikkus of all sects they too were attracted to practice . This interest in the pursuance of the path of practice created by Venerable Maha Thero has kept the Dhamma of the blessed one in the land of Sinhala todate.

Venerable Nyanarama passed on to blissful existence on 30th April 1992 and the cremation took place on 7th May 1992 among thousands of devotees at Galduwa Yogasrama premises.

Venerable Viradhammo was born at Esslingen in Germany in 1947as Vitauts Akers to Latvian refugee parents. They moved to Toronto, Canada, when he was 5 years old. He studied engineering at the University of Toronto but became disillusioned with academic life, and left in 1969 to go and work in Germany. Later, while living in India, he encountered Buddhism, meeting the late Samanera Bodhesako, who introduced him to the writings of Venerable Nyanavira Thera. He eventually travelled to Thailand to become a samanera at Wat Mahathat and took  upasampada  in 1974 at Wat Pah Pong. He was one of the first residents at Wat Pah Nanachat.

Having spent four years in Thailand, he went back to Canada and Germany to visit his family in 1977. Instead of returning to Thailand, he was asked by Ajahn Chah to join Ajahn Sumedho at the Hampstead Vihara, in London. In subsequent years, he was involved in the establishment of both Chithurst and Harnham monasteries.

In 1985, on invitation by the Wellington Theravada Buddhist Association, he moved to New Zealand, accompanied by Venerable Thanavaro. At first they lived in the city of Wellington itself, moving two years later to a 43-acre site in Stokes Valley, 29 km away. The monastery was named 'Bodhinyanarama' by Ajahn Sumedho, who conducted the first  upasampada ceremony there in 1989.

Venerable Viradhammo undertakes a wide range of teaching activities, including monthly visits to a vihara which has been established in Auckland. On occasion he also teaches in the South Island.

Venerable Bodhi Thero

Venerable Bodhi Thero widely known as Bhikkhu Bodhi  is an American Theravada Buddhist monk, ordained in Sri Lanka and currently teaching in the New York/New Jersey area. He was appointed the second president of the Buddhist Publication Society and has edited and authored several publications grounded in the Theravada Buddhist tradition.


Block was born in Brooklyn, NY in December  10 ,1944. In 1966, he obtained a B.A. in philosophy from Brooklyn College. In 1972, he obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy from Claremont Graduate School. 

In 1967, while still a graduate student, Bodhi was ordained as a novice monk in the Vietnamese Mahayana order. In 1972, after graduation, Ven. Bodhi travelled to Sri Lanka where, under Ven. Ananda Maitreya, he received novice ordination and, in 1973, he received full ordination in Theravada order.

In 1984, succeeding co-founder Ven. Nyanaponika Thera, Bodhi was appointed English-language editor of the Buddhist Publication Society  and, in 1988, became its president. In 2002, he retired from the society's editorship while still remaining its president.

In 2000, at the United Nations' first official Vesak celebration, Ven. Bodhi gave the keynote address. In 2002, after retiring as editor of BPS, Ven. Bodhi returned to the United States. He currently teaches at Bodhi Monastery  in Lafayette, New Jersey  and Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel, New York and is the chairman of the Yin Shun Foundation.

Gnanananda Thero was born to a Roman Catholic family, parented by Cristy Kabraal and Violet Perera. Soon after his birth whole his family became Buddhists , going so far as to give up their main source of income: which was 'raising animals for meat'.

He was ordained on March 26th, 1979  at  the age of 17, under Venerable  Dambagasare Shri Sumedhankara Thero and Venerable  Dikwelle Pannananda Thero at Seruwavila. He received a traditional Buddhist academic education and entered the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Having understood the inability to achieve what he wanted through an university education system, he left it and started visiting meditation centres and hermitages.

In 1999, he founded Mahamevnawa  under the guidance of Venerable  Kotapola Amarakitti Thero, in Waduwava, Polgahawela. Mahamevnawa now has around 40 branch monasteries throughout Sri Lanka, and overseas including Canada , USA , Australia , UK , and Germany .

I understood the real Dhamma as taught by the Buddha and used my creativity to propagate it. I talked to the seekers with empathy. I showed them the delusions. I convinced them of their wrongful attachments and devotions to the astrology, auspicious times, and the likes which consume their energy. I used simple Sinhalese to explain the Dhamma. I made it clear that it is the Four Noble Truths that is essential to the realisation of the Buddha Dhamma.

The Mahamevna that I started in August 14th, 1999 blossomed into a huge tree with numerous strong branches within a seven year period. It is a common thing to be the target of criticism and slanders when one becomes a popular figure. I was the target for endless criticism from Sri Lankan monks. It is difficult to develop Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Most Buddhists in Sri Lanka are filled with empty pride. They are plagued with many obstacles, preventing them from reaching a sound understanding of the Dhamma.

After 1505 Catholicism started spreading. Before that all the Sinhalese were Buddhists. There was no foundation for Catholicism in Sri Lanka; it is not surprising for a born Catholic like myself to become a Buddhist. Missionary invasion to Asia forced people to convert to Christianity. It is happening today too.

Dambadiva (India) is the land of the Buddhas and Buddhist saints. The environment in Dambadiva has not changed from the great times. I see it as an ideal place for a lay person to attain his goals amidst many hardships. Bodhisatvas are born from time to time in Dambadiva. I see Dr. Ambedkar, a Buddhist leader from the recent past, as a future Buddha. Anagarika Dharmapala also had Bodhisatva qualities.

Venerable Ajahn Gnaana-dhammo

Venerable Ajahn Gnaana-dhammo was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1955. He became interested in Buddhism by being inspired from reading the Buddha's message while a biology student. And in 1978 he then stayed at Wat Buddhadhamma near Sydney before traveling to Thailand to ordain.

He received his novice ordination from Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara at Wat Bowon Niwet Wiharn in Bangkok. And in 1979 at the age of 24 he received full ordination with the late Venerable Ajahn Chah at Wat Nong Pah Pong, a forest monastery in Ubon Ratchathani, the northeastern Thailand.

He then spent many years wandering on 'tudong' in the forest, staying in secluded monasteries and seeking out great meditation teachers and following their footsteps especially the late Venerable Ajahn Chah's. From 1994 to 2002 he stayed at Bodhinyana Buddhist Monastery in Western Australia as deputy to Ajahn Brahmavamso.

In 2002 when Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro left Wat Pah Nanachat Venerable Ajahn Gnaana-dhammo took over his duties and become the abbot of Wat Pah Nanachat, a branch monastery of Wat Nong Pah Pong with an international community of English speaking monks, which run by the late Venerable Ajahn Chah.

Since then he diligently has worked training 'anagarikas' and 'novices' and guides the monks at the Wah Pah Nanachat. Always he gives a talk to Buddhists and people who come to give the offerings in every morning, which the talk can be counselling to those in need. And on the religion day he gives the Dhamma talks at Wah Pah Nanachat and other branch monasteries of the late Venerable Ajahn Chah in Thailand and sometimes in other countries around the world.
